Description:

There are only two ways to get to Andros Island - via Nassau, Bahamas and via Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From Nassau, there two flights a day on Western Air (fifteen minutes flying time). From Fort Lauderdale, Continental Connection offers direct flight service from Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) to Andros Town Airport (ASD) (one hour flight).

Andros, the largest island of the Bahamas, is mainly undeveloped and not crowded by tourists, a good destination for sports and nature enthusiasts. A kind of tropical outback, it is riddled with ancient underwater caves, and inhabited by a mystical and mythical three toed, red-eyed, birdlike creature called a "Chickcharnie" who is supposed to bring you good luck, or so the legend goes.

Attracting divers, snorkelers, and bonefishermen, Small Hope Bay Lodge is a rustic family owned and operated seaside inn and scuba resort. Open since 1960, it is one of the nicest places to stay in Andros, with a unique down-home style.

Dick Birch, the founder, died in 1996 but his legacy lives on. Small Hope Bay Lodge continues to be run by the Birch family with extraordinary repeat business from loyal guests.

Small Hope Bay Lodge consists of a group of palm-shaded, native pinewood and coral stone beachfront cabins, lining the beach. Each unit has one or two bedrooms with all the necessary amenities.
